Chilli Chocolate Cake


  • 200g sugar
  • 200g all purpose flour
  • 70g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 240 ml buttermilk
  • 150 ml strong black coffee
  • 150 ml vegetable oil
  • 1tsp Mama's Not So Hot Sauce
  • 1tsp Grandma's Hot Sauce
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract


• Preheat oven to 160°C. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans and set aside.

• In a large bowl combine the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Using an electric whisk, mix on low until dry ingredients are combined.

• Add eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil, hot sauce and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for about two minutes.

• Pour batter evenly into prepared pans and bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
